The Entrepreneurs' Guide To Sewn Product Manufacturing

by e.lee caleca

This is an excellent and invaluable manual for the industry entrepreneur put out by Kathleen Fasanella. I was pointed to it by Oriole Adams Harris, advanced techniques instructor at the International Academy of Design & Technology in Nashville.  In Fasanella’s own words, this book is not traditional. The Entrepreneur’s Guide To Sewn Product Manufacturing is a comprehensive guide to what you need to know about the apparel industry.

Industry Bluebook

An industry pattern maker/pattern engineer/pattern designer, Fasanella specializes in hands-on technical education, training and consulting, and provides services such as sizing standards, size specifications, sewing specifications, and fitting. As a factory trainer for 20+ years, she has extensive experience teaching industrial sewing, sample making, and production line sewing.

Simply and concisely written in an easily understandable way, The Entrepreneur’s Guide To Sewn Product Manufacturing is well formatted and covers everything you’ll need to know about successfully creating your own garment industry business: design process, scheduling, production, costing, material needs, financing, all the way to protecting your work and more. She also includes a list of trade suppliers, magazines, resources and market show contact information. Not a trick is missed. But here’s the kicker: the book is written for designer entrepreneurs not for the big guys.

Affectionately referred to as the industry bluebook, it is required reading for anyone interested in making their own way in this field and in running a garment industry business - even if it is against the status quo. Priced at $60.00, this invaluable guidebook is well worth the money. Read every word from cover to cover.
